Overcooked 2 Crossplay: Platforms and Steam–Epic Setup
By AzFreeGame
Overcooked 2 supports Steam–Epic crossplay on Windows, but not PC–console or PlayStation–Xbox crossplay. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 Edition players can also play together online.
A PC-and-console group needs Overcooked! All You Can Eat on every player's device. That is a separate game with crossplay between Windows PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, not an update that connects existing Overcooked 2 copies. Your Overcooked 2 campaign save will not transfer to it.
Which versions can play together?
| Versions | Play together? | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Steam + Epic on Windows | Yes | Select Steam's crossplay branch; steps below. |
| Steam + Steam on Windows | Yes | Use matching branches. You do not need the Epic setup below for an all-Steam group on the default version. |
| Steam group including Mac or Linux | Yes, according to Team17's crossplay FAQ | Everyone uses Steam and matching game versions. This is not confirmation of every Mac/Linux-to-Epic combination. |
| Steam + GOG on Windows | Yes, listed in Team17's crossplay FAQ | The Steam player uses crossplay_branch and the in-game Team17 friends menu. |
| PS4 + PS5; Xbox One + Xbox Series X|S | Yes, within each console family | Everyone needs Overcooked 2, not a mixture of it and All You Can Eat. |
| Nintendo Switch + Switch 2 Edition | Yes | Online cross-generation play is supported. |
| PC + any console | No | Not supported in Overcooked 2. |
| PlayStation + Xbox or Nintendo Switch; Xbox + Nintendo Switch | No | Use All You Can Eat instead. |
| Overcooked 2 + All You Can Eat | No | Both players must launch the same game. |
For GOG setup and the remaining PC Game Pass limitations, see below.

Steam–Epic setup on Windows
The Steam player changes branches; the Epic player uses their Epic copy. A branch is an alternative version selected inside Steam, not a separate purchase. Follow Team17's published setup on the Windows Steam PC:
- In your Steam Library, right-click Overcooked! 2 and choose Properties.
- Open Game Versions & Betas (called Betas in older instructions). Select
crossplay_branchfrom the branch list. No beta access code is needed. - Close Properties and wait for the download to finish.
- Launch the game. Add and invite your friend through the Team17 in-game friends menu, not the Steam or Epic launcher.
Have every Steam player in the Steam–Epic group use crossplay_branch. Leaving one on the default version splits the group across incompatible builds. Team17 says switching branches keeps your progress.

What about GOG, PC Game Pass, Mac and Linux?
GOG: Team17's crossplay FAQ explicitly includes GOG alongside Epic in its branch instructions. For a Windows Steam–GOG group, the Steam player follows the same branch-selection steps above, then invites through the in-game Team17 friends menu. Any additional Steam players must use that branch too.
PC Game Pass: Team17's March 24, 2026 reply lists combinations with other PC stores, but requires compatible versions without naming the builds. That still leaves the exact setup unresolved here. Ask support about both stores and operating systems before buying specifically for that pairing; the console Game Pass version is not the PC version.
Mac and Linux: Team17's crossplay FAQ says these can play with Windows when everyone uses Steam. Its October 2022 patch notes also document network updates for the Steam OSX/Linux beta builds, GOG and Windows 10 versions. The launch-era 2021 exclusion is therefore not enough to describe later support. Keep the distinction between an all-Steam group and a mixed-store group; those patch notes do not establish every possible pairing.
Still unable to invite your friend?
First identify where the setup fails:
- Your platform pair is marked “No” above: changing network settings will not add crossplay. Check whether the whole group can use the same supported game and platform combination.
- Steam players selected different branches, or a download is unfinished: complete the matching-version setup above before inviting.
- You are inviting through a launcher: for Steam–Epic, switch to the in-game Team17 friends menu. Team17 also advises entering the game lobby before starting Steam groups or voice calls.
If those match but joining still fails, record the error code, each player's platform or PC store, Steam branch and group size. Note whether the error happens on joining or after a round, and send Team17 that information with the steps already tried. Its connection troubleshooting covers further checks; ask your internet provider or router manufacturer for help with unfamiliar network settings.
What changes if you move to All You Can Eat?
It includes remastered versions of both original campaigns and their additional content, but you start a separate save. If your group already has compatible Overcooked 2 copies, you do not need to switch just to play together. For a mixed PC–console group, weigh the cost of everyone's new copy and restarting campaign progress before moving.
