Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Date, Editions and Preorder Guide

By

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for April 8, 2027 on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. PC stores include Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. Physical preorders are open, as are digital preorders on PS5, Xbox and PC. Square Enix's release announcement leaves the Switch 2 digital preorder date unconfirmed.

Choose Standard for Revelation alone, Trilogy if you need the earlier games, or Premium for the story pass and 24-hour early access. Physical Deluxe is for collectibles: it does not include everything in digital Premium despite sharing its $99.99 US price.

Trilogy's $84.99 price has a deadline

The US Xbox offer ends April 7, 2027, at 23:59, with no timezone stated. The later regular price is not given. Use your store's deadline rather than converting that time yourself.

At these US prices, Trilogy costs $15 more than Standard and adds Remake Intergrade and Rebirth. If you already own either, compare the bundle total with Revelation plus only the missing game. Xbox permits buying duplicate contents but does not promise a discount for what you own.

The US digital Trilogy preorder gives immediate access to the two earlier games. The release announcement names PS5, Xbox and PC offers; Switch 2 digital preorder details remain unconfirmed. A Nintendo option in the buying page's selector is not itself an available eShop offer.

Preorder bonuses and digital extras

  • Digital preorders: Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia. Xbox uses the same preorder deadline noted above; the item may be sold later.
  • US Square Enix Store physical preorders: Sylph Summon Materia. Keep any redemption code supplied with your order.
  • Day One physical copies: an English-language Magic: The Gathering—Final Fantasy Final Showdown promo card at participating retailers, while stocks last.

The edition extras are separate from the preorder offer. Premium Plus includes Polydroid Alexander, Nymphwing Bracelet and Risk Taker's Choker. Collector's includes those three plus Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle.

Premium Plus does not supply downloadable art-book or soundtrack files on Xbox. Its listing puts them in the online Square Enix Digital Content Viewer. The 24-hour early access applies to the base game, not these extras or the story DLC.

Physical copies: discs and required downloads

None of the announced boxed formats avoids a required download. Check the format before ordering:

  • PS5 or Xbox disc: a compatible disc drive and an internet download of additional game data are required. Xbox Series S cannot use the disc.
  • Switch 2: the US and Japanese listings specify a game-key card. First use requires an internet download and at least 130 GB free; updates may require more space.

Allow time for installation before your first session. The 130 GB figure applies to Switch 2, not an announced install size for the other platforms.

Keep the Switch 2 game-key card after downloading. Nintendo requires it to stay inserted whenever you play; it is not a one-use download code. The downloaded data goes into system memory or a microSD Express card. Buying the boxed edition therefore does not remove the need for storage space.

The 120-page physical art book contains spoilers; the US Square Enix Store recommends viewing it after finishing the game.

Story Expansion Pass: contents and timing

The pass includes Story DLC 1: Sephiroth, Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks, Reclaimant Choker and Survival Set. Both DLCs are planned between winter 2027 and spring 2028, without individual dates or announced lengths.

You can buy Standard now and consider DLC separately later. Separate sales are planned for the pass and, after release, each DLC. The standalone pass date needs clarification: Square Enix's announcement says launch, while its buying page and console listings say after the base game's release.

Premium costs $30 more than Standard at US prices. That buys the listed pass and early access; whether it saves money over separate purchases depends on DLC prices that are not yet published.

Save-data rewards

  • Remake Intergrade main-story save: Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia and Remake Weapon Skin Set.
  • Rebirth save: Phoenix Summon Materia and Rebirth Weapon Skin Set.

To qualify, keep the older save on the console or PC where you will play Revelation and use the same account. The Remake reward requires a main-story save; an Episode Intermission save alone is not enough.

No old saves? Finishing Revelation's main story unlocks these rewards too. You do not need to replay the earlier games just to obtain them. These are save-data bonuses, not a promise to import your old levels, equipment or story progress.

Xbox/PC ownership and performance

For one purchase on Xbox and PC, choose an eligible Xbox Play Anywhere digital copy. Xbox/Windows Store purchases and qualifying retailer codes cover Xbox and Xbox on PC, with saves, progress, add-ons and achievements tied to the account.

That entitlement does not include Steam, Epic, PlayStation or Switch copies. Saves across those separate storefronts and platforms are unannounced, as is inclusion in the Game Pass or PlayStation Plus catalogs.

For performance, Xbox's 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+ badges are not a per-console mode breakdown or a promise of native 4K at 60 FPS together. Full console targets, including Switch 2, and complete PC requirements are still unannounced.
